Dolakha : A group of women of Dolakha district headquarters, Charikot, has started floriculture in a commercial manner. A group of seven women of and around Charikot has initiated the cultivation of flowerings by establishing Karunamaya Flower Nursery.
Women engaged their collective efforts on floriculture under the leadership of Shanta Kumari Thakuri, who has long been involved in gardening. The Nursery has been set up to serve the objective of supplying the flowers on demand in the district and contributing to enhance the livelihood of women by engaging them in commercial floriculture, said Nursery Chairperson Thakuri. Women gave a start to this commercial venture by taking 19 ropanis of land on lease in Lampate of Charikot on Rs. 38,000 per annum. Other three male members have also been assisting the efforts of women having bought the share of nursery. Rs. 500,000 has been invested in setting up the nursery, said group treasurer Durga Shrestha, adding that they have set goal to reach the investment to Rs. 1.5 million.
A good start of different and attractive floriculture by women of Dailekh has been considered an epitome at a time when majority women across the country have been bearing the brunt of unemployment. RSS
